The 24th annual meeting is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of tax administrators involved in the development and administration of technology applications. This year’s presentations will feature sessions provided by state and federal agencies, and electronic commerce tax service companies related to the application of technologies that enable improvements in tax administration. The two Sabrix sessions are:
Automation of Use Tax Determinations
Presenter: John Kennedy, Senior Business Consultant, Sabrix
Time: Monday, August 11, 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Overview: Determining use tax on a corporation’s purchases is often challenging for the tax professional, because of the manual tax processes that are commonly used. However, there is a new generation of tax solutions that can fully automate the tax determination process and eliminate costly errors. In this presentation, Kennedy will educate tax and finance professionals on how to approach automation and the key steps required to ensure a successful initiative. The presentation will also cover use tax determinations, a review of “next generation” tools available, and the benefits which can be realized through automation.
Tax Jurisdiction Sourcing
Presenter: Carla Yrjanson, VP Tax Research Services, Sabrix
Time: Wednesday, August 13, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Overview: Achieving compliance with the new sales, use, and VAT rules requires considerable effort and adds a significant burden to tax departments especially when there are tax jurisdiction sourcing changes. Yrjanson will explain how tax technology, paired with a consolidated approach to managing ever changing transaction tax rates and rules, can proactively address changes. She will also cover changes in states adopting SST sourcing changes and the EU sourcing of services change coming up in 2010 and how Sabrix solutions can track and respond to law changes such as these.
